Trade Me Charity Auction
18-25 November 2007
Have you checked out our ‘Online Charity Auction’???
Its only open this week, through to Sunday…
There are some really nice items up for auction, including some lovely pieces of jewellery, furniture, collectables, great original art and lots more...
Check it out, grab a bargain and support us at the same time.
Help us turn goods into cash that will enable us to continue providing free education programmes and counselling for children and their parents and emergency food assistance for local families in crisis by donating and purchasing items.
Whether you can donate something brand-new or are happy to gift a precious second-hand item that has been gathering dust in your attic, we’re keen to hear from you.
Methodist Social Services’ branded pages will show on both the store listings and normal listings in their relevant categories, so you will be able to identify your donation and follow the progress of the auction. Whether or not you have goods to donate, we hope you will support our latest fundraiser by joining in the bidding and buying online from 19-25 November.
With an estimated 338,000 visitors a day wandering through Trade Me, this is an exciting way to sell donated goods to a much wider audience and achieve good prices. We will be promoting the auction vigorously and acknowledging our donations in the media and on our Methodist Social Services website.
Methodist Social Services in Palmerston North has been helping children and their families make positive changes in their lives for over 40 years. But we depend on the generosity of others to develop and continue our work. Donating goods to our Trade Me Charity Auction could make the difference that counts in the life of a New Zealand child.
If you have donations, information or ideas, please contact Helene Garland at the centre.
But What Will I Wear, Darling?
This red carpet fashion event on 28 April at Palmerston North’s plush Regent on Broadway was hailed as a professional and spectacular show, set to become yet another Methodist Social Services’ signature event. Around 450 guests enjoyed fabulous wine from Alpha Domus and delicious nibbles provided by Wharerata Function Centre. Top Palmerston North stores Rêve, TR Designs, Vibes, Posh, GQ Clothing, Kilt, Alexanders, Native Soup and Footloose – plus Methodist Social Services’ own Wesley Vintage and Highbury House (with accessories from Trade Aid) - showcased their latest fashions. Celebrity models, MPs Steve Maharey, Simon Power and Mayor Heather Tanguay strutted their stuff amongst the stunning line-up of models.
Top-class entertainment was provided by diva Kathi Craig and the Dean McKerras Dance team as well as Karl Perigo and Vicki Lee, whose live backing and vocals for the eveningwear section added an extra touch of class to the show.

Yesterday’s Treasures

‘
Yesterday’s Treasures’ began as a sales table in Affordables in 1999 and progressed to ‘The Linen Sale’, which was held each year in St Paul’s Church in Broadway. By 2005 we needed more space and expanded the event to also include the new worship area in Wesley Broadway.
The brainchild of Doreen Clifton, a Volunteer at Affordables and now Wesley Vintage, it has grown into an extremely popular event, which is attended by locals and out-of-towners alike. Held in March each year, an enormous amount of work goes into gathering, cleaning, mending and pricing items throughout the year, in preparation for the big day.
In 2005 we changed the name of the event to ‘Yesterday’s Treasures’, which better reflects the type of items available. While it started as a sale of heritage linen, it now includes:

Throughout the year items for the event are brought into our Centre at Main Street and our two second hand stores or popped into our bright yellow bins. We also collect items from people who are unable to get them to us.
