Counselling Service
The Counselling service offered by the Centre provides a wide range of options and a safe, supportive and respectful environment for people seeking counselling.
Our counselling is offered at very affordable rates for adults and free to children up to and including 16 years. Our Counsellor’s expertise with children and adolescents means that there is a steady demand for their services. However the work of the Counsellors is not limited to children and adolescents, they also offer counselling in the following:
We believe that people have the resources within themselves to find their own paths into the future. The key to change lies within each individual.
We offer one late night per week for people who are unable to make appointments during work hours.

Social Work Service
The Social Work service offered by the Centre came into being in August of 2003, offering support to families and individuals who are accessing our other services, in particular our family education programmes. However, where possible our Social Worker also works with people with identified needs, who do not meet the criteria for other agencies. These can be people who:
Recently we embarked on an exciting new project, entering into a partnership with Nga Rito O Te Puawaitanga, Early Childhood Centre and Whakatipuria, Teen Parent Unit to provide social work support to the family/whanau attending the school.
Foodbank
Palmerston North Foodbank was established in 1983 and was the first main Foodbank within the city.
Though numbers accessing the service have risen and declined as a response to the economy, there has always been a continued need for the Foodbank within the city.
The service is available for families and individuals who are in crisis and require emergency food assistance.
I. D. is required for every visit. We accept:
Community Services Card
Drivers Licence
Birth Certificate
Passport
University I.D. Card
Foodbank Hours:
Monday-Friday 2:00 -3:30pm
Please note we are closed on public holidays.
The service is overseen by a qualified social worker, who as well as helping with emergency food needs, can give you support, advice and advocate/liaise with other agencies with and for you.
Conditions of Use
1st Visit:
I.D. only required.
2nd & 3rd Visit:
A letter from the Department of Work and Income
declining a Special Needs Grant for food.
Please Note:
In the event that Work and Income decline your request a
second time for not keeping your receipts, or for not
meeting the Department’s criteria we will require you to
meet with a community/social/family/whanau worker,
before providing you with a food parcel.
4th and future Visits:
A referral from a community/social/family/ whanau
Worker.
Also note:
Our Foodbank is an emergency service only. We are not able to supply a full week’s Groceries.
Food can only be given to people living in the Palmerston North area.
We reserve the right to refuse a food parcel or service to people:
Behaving in an abusive or inappropriate manner.
Failure to adhere to the conditions of use.
